about

5. Two

The dust settles and Ambition finds himself losing faith that Love still exists. He has embraced Logic once more as the Universal Truth, ignoring the fact that he once knew Love. To dull his pain, he has turned to drugs and alcohol. He lives in a Loveless world and secretly understands that it's a truly terrible one.
One night, he decides he is ready to embrace eternal darkness and overdose. He cannot accept this miserable world where every truth he has ever found falls into disarray. He feels trapped within a windowpane; capable of glimpsing the truth but never of connecting with it. Just before he finally pulls his own plug, Love comes back.
In shock, Ambition responds to Love's return with Logic; he attempts to explain why he left so long ago and apologizes profusely for what he had done. Love stops him in his tracks and whispers that she had forgiven him the night she left. She explains that she left to teach him the Universal Truth, but that only he may decide what that is once and for all. Ambition finds himself at a crossroads, and as the weight of his decision bears down on him, he realizes the finality of what is to come.

lyrics

Two

I know I'm just another weary traveler
Trying to find his way back home
And I know that when it all comes unraveled
I won't know which way to go

I'm trapped inside a windowpane
It's like there's cellophane
Consuming everything I know
Just to glimpse the other side
Particles collide
We ignite and then we explode

They say they're gonna take me away
To save me from myself
They tell me that it's better this way
I'm just another book on the shelf

You know I'm at a crossroads
Trying to decide which way to go
And I know you're standing at the edge
Of everything you've ever known
You know you're only halfway to the bottom
You can choose to get high or get low
And I know I'm just a few steps away
From reaping what I've sown

You know that there's a peace to be found
When you're at the end of the road
And you know you'll go another round
Until your very last episode

You're backed into the ropes again
How can you begin
To rally one more battle cry?
Go on and take another swing
From your suffering
Today is not the day you'll die

You know I'm at a crossroads
Trying to decide which way to go
And I know you're standing at the edge
Of everything you've ever known
You know you're only halfway to the bottom
You can choose to get high or get low
And I know I'm just a few steps away
From reaping what I've sown

It's not the day...
It's not the day...
It's not the day...
It's not the day...
It's not the day...

You know I'm at a crossroads
Trying to decide which way to go
And I know you're standing at the edge
Of everything you've ever known
You know you're only halfway to the bottom
You can choose to get high or get low
And I know I'm just a few steps away
From reaping what I've sown
